TRIAD Wedge Welding – versatile, durable, strong, fast and up for any job
Waagmeester Canvas Products uses the TRIAD Wedge Welding System, the most versatile automatic wedge welder available. This tool puts a seam in fabric for tarps, tents, awnings, flags, banners, tubes, curtains, bags, covers, sails, and so on. And it does so without poking holes!!
In the summer of 1996, Atlanta threw a world party. The TRIAD was there to weld over 250,000 square feet of ground covers.
Traditionally, seams have been sewn for joining fabric. This age-old process is still the industry standard, and works well for many applications. Sometimes you want a fused seam that doesn’t introduce holes or weaknesses to your fabric. That’s where the wedge welder comes into play. Like sewing, it permanently fastens two pieces of cloth together. Unlike sewing, the wedge is able to weld 12-14 oz. material at a rate of 20 feet per minute.
The Hot Wedge thermo bonds the material by contact. The material makes contact on top and bottom of the wedge. The wedge heats the material to a temperature at which it will adhere. The material then enters directly into the pressure rollers to produce a bond. The bond with some material can be enhanced with the use of adhesives at the wedge.
Perhaps the most important advantage of the WEDGE WELD is seen when working with material that is waterproof. When you have a covering or water-tight container that you’ve been building with the best materials at hand, it just doesn’t make sense to bind it together by punching a bunch of holes in it. To maintain the integrity of the material and create a super-strong weld is important. The TRIAD allows us to do that. Check out the types of seams we can do (see panel on left) and think about how it can benefit you.
